Senior Help Line is open as follows: Mon/Tues/Thurs 10am - 10pm and Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun 10am - 4pm and 7pm - 10pm, 365 days of the year.

 
Will I have to give my name if I call?

No, you don’t have to give your name, where you live or give any information you don’t want. The volunteer may give their name and town location if you ask.

 
Do I have to be an older person to 'phone?

No. While the help line is primarily for older callers, people of all ages do contact.

 
How much does a call cost?

You can contact Senior Help Line at a cost of a local call anywhere in Ireland.

 
Can I talk to the same person each time?

With some hundreds of volunteers, each working at different times, it would not be possible to talk to the same person each time. However, each volunteer is trained to give a courteous, friendly and empathic response to each genuine caller.

 
Do you need to have a big problem to 'phone?

Callers contact for all kinds of reasons - they may feel lonely and want a chat, they may want to share a problem, big or small, they may want information about a local service or national entitlement. Your wish to call us is sufficient reason for us to listen.

 
Can I call back a number of times if I need to?

Yes, you are welcome to call us again, and many callers do so.

 
How could I become a Senior Help Line volunteer?

Volunteers are normally recruited through existing groups such as active retirement associations and other local voluntary groups.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you can:
